Kirsten studied at University of Port Elizabeth South Africa and at University of Cambridge. She worked for a major international practice on projects in UK and Hong Kong including education, public buildlings, and urban design, and on mixed use developments. She completted the IDBE course at Cambridge in 2009, assessing the possible role of NGOs in solving the housing crisis in South Africa. In March 2009 she became a consultant architect for MBA.
