Ethos

A city is an act of imagination

A city, gathering together, gives exponential power to act: to accomplish great tasks and to find specialist teams.

A city is an organism in which we choose to collaborate, in which resources follow ideas. It continually renews and repairs itself. City = water + ideas.

What role for architects? We construct. We are agents for intelligent change.

Architecture begins with human activity: the body in life and movement, the human, being. Daily life is the centre. We clothe everyday activity in air, and clothe the air in built structures that can dignify and make life joyful. Architecture is like sculpture, beautiful, thought provoking, yet it only comes alive when inhabited. We live between the walls in a single interconnected body of air, a living city.
