Wimbledon - Urban Design
Since 2001 the Wimbledon Civic Forum has been holding public workshops, helping local people - experts in their own area - to help shape the future of the city.
In 2013 a major conference was held, at which Richard Rogers and Marcus Beale shared a platform to describe 'Wimbledon The Place'. In 2014 Future Wimbledon announced a design competition as a pre-cursor to a masterplan for the town centre, an opportunity for rising stars and community champions to share their ideas and aspirations at the earliest stage of its development.
The competition, organised by Merton Council, Love Wimbledon Business Improvement District and Design Council, attracted ideas from professionals and local creative communities to imagineer Wimbledon town centre of 2030. Nearly 100 entries were submitted and a panel of judges, including Paul Finch, Alison Brooks, Peter Murray and Morag Myerscough shortlisted 29 from nearly 100 creative visions for the town centre.
MBA were draughtsmen of three entries, on behalf of Wimbledon Civic Forum, Wimbledon East Hillside Residents Association and the Concert Hall group. All were shortlisted, one highly commended, and one the overall winner of the community commons prize. The full list of shortlisted entries is
