NOW THAT ZERO GROWTH looks like the expected reality over the medium term, what can we expect going forward and how will this affect our day to day lives?
We have assembled a distinguished and diverse team of speakers who will be exploring questions such as:
Is steady state economics rather than growth economics something we should aspire to? Whether or not we aspire to it, is this something we will have to accept? What's the difference between healthy growth and malignant growth?
What changes to our economic value-systems will occur over the next few years? How will it feel different?
Join the debate and have your say!
Speakers will be:
MARK GARNIER MPTreasury Select Committee DAVID TRIGGS	Chairman The Henry George Foundation PETER CHALLEN	Chairman Christian Council For Monetary Justice
The event will be chaired by: STEPHEN HAMMOND MP

MBA have submitted plans to Oxford Council for alterations and additions to the Rhodes Building for Oriel College. The proposals include landscape proposals to improve accessibility, the removal of inappropriate internal alterations carried out in the 1980s, and the provision of a new roof in facetted copper panels, which will provide additional undergraduate accommodation for the College. The south elevation to Oxford's High Street will have the original window openings enlarged to allow views from street level into the College. The proposals are a result of a Conservation and Management Plan and a Master Plan which identified the need for more on-site undergraduate accommodation and this building as the most appropriate place to provide it. The roof has been designed to preserve sky views from the High Street. MBA had access to original plans and correspondence from Champney which showed how his designs for the building, with a taller roof than built, and with a loggia based on Christopher Wren's Library at Trinity Cambridge, were modified during design development and construction.

Dover Castle Tunnels

MBA's conservation arm Stow & Beale Conservation Architects are carrying out a feasibility study for English Heritage at the Dover 'Secret Wartime Tunnels', a system of tunnels, now over 1km long, originally cut into the chalk cliffs in 1793, brick lined in 1810, and extended during the second world war to form a combined HQ for admiralty, army and air-force, complete with an underground field-hospital. The tunnels were used for planning and directing 'Operation Dynamo' - the evacuation of the British Expiditionary Force from Dunkirk in 1941 - and later for the invasion of Europe in 1944. Such was secrecy, those working in the tunnels did not know of their extent, access was allowed on a need-to-be-there room-by-room basis. During the Cold War, the tunnels were upgraded and re-used as a Regional Centre of Government, before being 'de-secretized' and handed to English Heritage in 1995. They are now a major visitor attraction at Dover Castle, and are to be represented as part of a regeneration programme aimed to make seaside towns thrive through improvements to heritage and tourism.
