London Road Cemetery


The London Road Cemetery needs additional burial space. This design for the London Borough of Merton extends the cemetery into an irregular spur of land to the south, which will be used as allotments until the new capacity is required, the boundary of the cemetery moving southwards as needed. The challenge was to achieve a natural extension to the cemetery, relating the new space back to the older chapel and grid layout, to provide maximum capacity for the land allocated, and to allow the functional requirements for accessibility and servicing.
