Iain Wadham

Dip Arch ARB, RIBA
Director

Director: MBA

Iain comes from a generation of fixers, makers and solution-finders.
As an architect he lives for the process by which ideas find their built form. He spent teenage years crafting pots from a washing-machine lathe; sailing dinghies with razor-sharp transoms to eliminate drag, and before school-end he had built his first car, on which he subsequently undertook a stage 2 engine build and crafted bespoke throttle linkages.

Studying architecture enabled theory and considered design to complement the taking-apart and putting-together of things…into creating form with meaning.
A three-year stint in the US included both influential study and architectural fabrication, creating café screens and furniture with interesting double-fold geometries, building truck beds and motorcycles, and developing a step-in snowboard binding, tested in Tahoe, for which Iain designed and built the first-run production machinery.

Iain worked in Rome for three years for a signature architect where he was relied upon to find ways of building the prestigious image-won competitions, alongside delivering a series of projects for Armani and historic schemes such as exploring further archaeological excavation within the Foro Romano, and curating an exhibition in the Coliseum.

In London, Iain spent a few years designing and delivering scores of private residential projects, before moving to commercial projects for the main London Estates which he has served for the last fifteen years. He is privileged to have been part of those families of dedicated consultants, and whilst holding a senior position has never been far from the detail, always the first to the scaffold to find solutions to site challenges. The successful incorporation of Public Art has become one of Iain’s key interests. He remains a maker, and is always building joinery or furniture items outside work, recently adding a welder and metalworking lathe to his workshop.
Now at MBA, Iain looks forward to assisting to expand their already wonderfully eclectic mix of projects into larger commercial schemes which he knows can benefit from the sensitivity and expertise on offer from this team.
